More than 600 million people in Africa, equivalent to more than 43% of the total population, lack access to electricity; most of them in sub-Saharan Africa. This is according to the Africa Energy Outlook 2022 Analysis report by the International Energy Agency.

The negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the severe climate change have led to power cuts, rationing and increase in energy poverty in many homes. Economies of many African countries are also struggling.

It is only through proactive engagement and dialogue amongst the key players that the sustainable energy transition and development can be addressed. The UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 7 calls for “affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” by 2030. To achieve this will require annual investment of USD 25 million, which is about 1% of global energy investment.

That is why AFFOSHED has and shall continue to engage in these dialogues, not only on the African continent, but also with the rest of the world. This is to bridge the information gap and explore networks among the potential investors, governments, private sector, regulators, policy makers, equipment manufacturers, to leverage capital and finance towards increased access to sustainable, reliable and affordable Energy, Power and Electricity for all!
